Week 1

We left our family on the 21st of November.  Stopped on the east coast for about a week then began our hop eastward toward our destination.  That destination was Afghanistan.  It's now December 10th and it's been a little over a week since we arrived.  We're part of an Air Evac Operations Team.  We manage and schedule the flight nurses and medics as well as some critical care teams for missions flying our ill and injured soldiers on their journey homeward.  We're getting settled, unpacking and sleeping pretty hard considering we're working six 12 hour shifts a week!  Some of us are doing and learning things we've never done before.  I'm kinda doing 2 jobs which has my brain streched to it's limit.  They say hard work never killed anyone but it sure tires you out :-O.  It's noisy 24 hours a day with aircraft coming and going.  Med Evac helicoptors land near us frequently dropping off soldiers.  It's very dusty and occasionally we cough and have sinus congestion.  Fun stuff.  This is my first deployment here as well as some of my team.  We're also figuring out how to eat some of the dining facility food here.  Wow some days it's just plain scary...I look at it and say no way.  Then go make myself a cheese sandwich.  I figured that's pretty safe.  Anyway this is my first ever blog.  I've never written one before so hopefully you'll keep interested and will want to read more :-).  I'll have pics soon.

  1. Kellye, I'm very interested and would love to hear more! And see more too!

It's crazy to think of you so far away and in a totally new environment. The food comment really threw me for a loop. You need some good snacks!
